Low carbon fuels have a critical role in the Energy Transition and decarbonisation

The transport sector, road, aviation and marine is one of the biggest contributors to man-made carbon emissions.  It is also one of the most difficult sectors to decarbonise.  

While EV's have a key role to play in the decarbonisation of passengers cars, and some commercial vehicle types, they will take time to grow to their full potential, and moreover there are key segments such as aviation, marine and some heavy duty vehicle types where electrification is not an option. 

Therefore low carbon fuels, biofuels, biogas (renewable natural gas),  SAF (sustainable aviation fuels), and eFuels (renewable fuels from green hydrogen) have a compelling role to play in decarbonising the transport sector both today and going forward has technologies and costs improve. 

The overriding challenge is around building competitive low carbon fuels businesses that can deliver the necessary carbon emission reductions at scale and sustainably.
